Viking Link Converter Station Site Access Road Construction Begins

The Viking Link team and our contractors have been busy preparing for the start of the interconnector construction phase, scheduled to commence this summer.

Work is planned to start from the 1st July 2020, to construct the access road to the converter station site at Bicker from the A52, close to the village of Donington.

Works will be carried out by Siemens and their subcontractors; Ian Farmer Associates, who will be undertaking survey works and NMCN, who will be constructing the access road.

Protecting the welfare of our employees, contractors and local communities remains our priority.  All people working on the project do so under stringent health and safety COVID-19 measures and current government guidelines to protect not just themselves but also the communities in which they operate.

To ensure the safety of our workers, the local community and the general public, we will be putting several highway traffic managements changes in place ahead of the works, including:

- Reducing the speed limit from 60mph to 40mph close to the works / site

- 2-way traffic lights at the site entrance for approximately 10 weeks

- Restrictions on traffic entering and exiting the site from the A52 to turning left only, this will avoid traffic crossing the highway

- Erection of traffic management signage directing and restricting any construction site traffic entering the villages of Donington and Bicker

- Public right of way closure at Hammond Beck (Middle Fen Drove to A52 Bridge End Causeway)

All the above restrictions have been approved by Lincolnshire County Council via the Temporary Traffic Regulation Order process and will be in place from 1st July 2020 for approximately 18 months.
