Viking Link Interconnector Project obtains CEF Grant approval.

On Thursday 28th April, 2016 the Regulation & Government Funding team submitted the Viking Link EU Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Grant application to the EU Innovation and Networks Executive Agency (INEA).

The submission of the Viking Link application involved obtaining signatures of support from the four Member State jurisdictions that the cable route crosses (GB, Denmark, The Netherlands and Germany). The submission was successfully achieved through excellent engagement between the project partners, National Grid and Energinet.dk.

INEA issued a notice advising that the €200m budget for this Call for Proposals was over-subscribed by €157m. This highlights the competitive process the Viking Link application was subjected to during the three month assessment period.

A final decision by INEA on the grant award has been received and the application for the co-funding of the final project development cost was confirmed approved on Friday, 15 July 2016.

This award means Viking link’s final development costs will be co-funded by the EUROPEAN UNION.
